 Message from the President

 Thank you for inviting me to be your President for the year 2008. My goals for the year are to increase membership, keep our organization fiscally responsible and continue to monitor the City of Kansas City in its efforts to impose more restrictions against landlords, both financially and in the way we operate our rental properties.
Landlords, Inc must choose its battles carefully as legal fees of $40,000 - $60,000 are not uncommun in lawsuits against any government body. Landlords, Inc operates in conjuntion with the Misssouri Apartment Association( MAA) and the National Apartment Association (NAA) who monitor both state and federal laws concerning landlords.
 The Board of Directors' telephone numbers are in the news letter and in this website. Call us, come to Board or general meetings and get involved to protect your property.

   Why Join?

 Landlords, Inc. is managed by Landlords who voluntarily donate their time to achieve the goals of the this not-for-profit organization.This organization operates with a low budget to serve its members.
Occasionally we call on our members to join us when we attempt to challenge anti-landlord legislation at Kansas City council or at the state level in Jefferson City.


Only the office staff receives an hourly paid salary; This is how we can
keep our membership dues at $50 per year.

Officers and board members are not paid for their time except for
a per diem allowance for authorized travel.

 As a member you will enjoy the following information:

  - At the State level we are affiliated with a parent association in Jefferson 
Citythe Missouri Apartment Association (MAA) which employs a full-time
lobbyist to monitor and promote legislation affecting landlords
( See our legislative reports).
 

- Updates on developments at City Hall regarding landlord-tenant 
ordinances.
 

 - Monthly educational meetings with guest speakers including
attorneys and professionals specialized in rental property
 
 

 For small charges (near cost) this association also provides the

Join Us at the Landlords Inc. 2008 Annual Picnic
Landlords, Inc. is holding our annual picnic on June 22 beginning at 11:00 at Memorial Park in Belton. There will be a train ride at 12:30.

We will provide the meat and drinks, you bring a side dish or dessert, lawn chairs and utensils.

Memorial Park can be reached by taking 71 South to the 163rd Street exit, turning right on MO-Y, a slight righ at Cedar Street and turnign left at Commercial Street.

Rental Property Inspection Update
The City Council has announced the list of neighborhoods that have applied for and been approved for property inspection. All properties in these neighborhoods, both rental and owner-occupied, are subject to inspection. Click on Read More to see the list of neighborhoods.

Landlords, Inc legal Fund
We are currently pursuing the development of a legal. We anticipate problems with the City over the new registration and inspection program and we are going to need significant contributions order to bring any serious legal challenges to the ordinance.
Current estimates are in the $40,000 to $60,000 range. While we don't have to foot the entire bill as we may be able to join forces with other like minded landlord groups we need to have significant ressources if we expect the city to take us seriously in this and other issues.In order to contribute to the legal fund, Please mail a check or money order to Landlords, Inc and make sure you designate "Legal Fund" on the memo line. City Council approves legislation on landlord registration
The Kansas City Council approved new legislation requiring most landlords to register with the city and to provide comprehensive exterior inspections for neighborhoods that want them.

The rental property registration requirement will begin in January 2008 Inspections will begin in targeted neighborhoods after the new fiscal year begins May 1 2008

Say Hello to our new office staff.
Landlords, Inc is happy to announce to its members that our office is now fully staffed to respond to their daily inquiries.
Our new office managers, Pat and Carol, are eager to make new things happen. The membership at large should really be pleased with the quality of our new service.
Your cooperation and patience during our transition of service is appreciated. Stay tuned to hear more new positive changes.
