 Message from the President

Thank you for inviting me to be your President for the year 2008. My goals for the year are to increase membership, keep our organization fiscally responsible and continue to monitor the City of Kansas City in its efforts to impose more restrictions against landlords, both financially and in the way we operate our rental properties.
Landlords, Inc must choose its battles carefully as legal fees of $40,000 - $60,000 are not uncommon in lawsuits against any government body. Landlords, Inc operates in conjunction with the Missouri Apartment Association( MAA) and the National Apartment Association (NAA) who monitor both state and federal laws concerning landlords.
The Board of Directors' telephone numbers are in the news letter and in this website. Call us, come to Board or general meetings and get involved to protect your property.

                                                                 Tom Balnis
                                                                  President

KCMO Trash Rebate Update
As many of you probably know, the City is attempting to repeal the trash rebate they were ordered by the courts to pay to apartment buildings in exchange for not picking up apartment trash.

The Heartland Apartment Association has retained counsel to fight this action by the city and is preparing to fight them all the way. They have already won a minor concession and the City has agreed to fund the program through October 31, 2008.

We are asking owners of 7 or more contiguous units to contribute $3.00 per unit (about one month’s rebate) towards fighting this action by the city. Please write “trash rebate legal fund” in the memo of your checks and send them to the Landlords, Inc. office.
